Free WebP to JPG Converter Online

WebP helps websites load quickly, which is why so many images you save today end up as .webp. Outside the browser, though, some photo viewers, editors, print services and upload forms still won't accept it.

JPG is the answer when you need an image to just work. This converter decodes your WebP in the browser, redraws it at the same width and height, and saves a standard JPG. Nothing is sent to a server.

WebP vs JPG

What is WebP?

Google's image format for the web

.webp

WebP was released by Google in 2010 to make images on the web smaller. It has a lossy mode based on the VP8 video codec and a lossless mode, and both support transparency.

For a photo, a WebP is usually smaller than a JPG of similar quality, and every current browser displays it. Outside the browser support is patchier: some older editors, print services and upload forms still don't accept it.

What is JPG?

Joint Photographic Experts Group

.jpg, .jpeg

JPG, also written JPEG, has been the standard format for photos since the early 1990s. It uses lossy compression: it discards detail the eye is least likely to notice, which keeps photos small.

It is accepted almost everywhere, from cameras and phones to printers, email, websites and government upload forms. It has no transparency, and each time a JPG is edited and saved again it loses a little more detail.

Why Convert WebP to JPG?

Maximum compatibility

Older software, some phones and many desktop apps still don't recognize WebP. Every one of them opens JPG.

Pass upload checks

Application forms, marketplaces and exam or visa portals often accept only JPG or PNG, and reject WebP.

Smaller than PNG

For photos, JPG is far smaller than PNG, so it's the better choice when you don't need transparency.

Ready to print and share

Print shops, email recipients and messaging apps handle JPG without any compatibility surprises.

Tips for Converting WebP to JPG

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert WebP to JPG?

Drop the WebP onto the converter at the top of this page. JPG is already selected, so just check the quality and preview, then press Download. It all happens in your browser in a second or two.

Does converting WebP to JPG lose quality?

JPG is lossy, so re-saving loses a little detail. At the default 90% it's very hard to see, and the dimensions stay exactly the same. Raise the slider if you want to keep more detail.

What happens to a transparent background?

JPG can't store transparency, so transparent areas are filled with a solid color. White is the default, and you can pick black or any color. Choose PNG to keep the transparency.

Why is the JPG larger than the WebP?

WebP usually compresses photos more efficiently than JPG, so the same image can take more space as a JPG. Lower the quality slider if you need a smaller file.

Does the JPG keep the photo’s location and camera data?

No. The JPG is written from the image’s pixels alone, so EXIF details such as the camera model, the date taken and GPS location are not copied over. That makes the converted file safer to share, but keep your original if you need that information.

Is my WebP uploaded to a server?

No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser: your WebP is opened, turned into a JPG and saved on your own device. Nothing is sent anywhere, and nothing is kept once you close the tab.

Each one opens the same converter with its format already chosen, plus a guide to both formats.
